If you are a web developer like me and you are using windows 8, sooner or later you will need to play around with IIS on your local (development) machine.
So if this is the first time you feel the need for IIS access and you want to figure out how to enable/run IIS on windows 8 here is how:
1) First, figure out if IIS is already enabled and working or not.
Open your favorite browser and type http://localhost.
If you see the default screen for IIS 8 then it is already up. To access the IIS Manager open up the Windows 8 Start Screen (Metro Interface), type “IIS” (all caps) and click the result.
2) If IIS is not enabled.
Go to Metro Interface, type “appwiz.cpl” and hit Enter,
Click “Turn Windows features on or off”,
Check “Internet Information Services” item in the list and click OK.
After applying the changes IIS 8 should be running on your Windows 8. Now you can access the IIS Manager as I described in step 1.
Hope this helps someone.
